My Transatlantic Cruise Blog With New York Stay

Embarkation went very smoothly at Southampton and our luggage was already outside our cabin.

We had to queue for an hour to get my dietary requests confirmed with the maître d. In the Britannia restaurant but they were great, even bought my lunch into the Golden Lion pub.

Day 2
Breakfast in our stateroom was delivered on time and was very nice.

We ventured out to the gym which was surprisingly busy but had a great vibe.  The canyon ranch spa was also busy.

Formal night black & white ball, was lovely seeing everyone on-board dressed up and after 6pm no denim is allowed to be worn. Dinner in the Britannia restaurant was excellent and we enjoyed the pub quiz in the golden lion pub. After dinner we went for a walk on deck, we have been lucky with the weather so far and the sun has been shining during the day and the temperature in the mid 60's

Day 3
A write off for me I've had the dreaded sea sickness all day so had the day/night in the cabin, great choice of movies to watch to pass the time.

Day 4
Breakfast in the Britannia restaurant was lovely and another walk out on deck before settling down with a good book to read. This cruise is certainly very relaxing.

There is so much to do on-board during the day but for the older clientele, if you are under 60 you may struggle to find activities to do. They hold lectures on-board daily and knitting, needlework shops, flower arranging classes, scarf tying cases and lots of bridge classes, we're both just happy relaxing and reading and enjoying the pub quizzes and the darts.

Day 5
Another lazy start to the day, missed breakfast but sat in our usual pub having a latte and waiting for the pub quiz. A trip to the gym later then going to illuminations to watch the afternoon movie.

Day 6
The ship is moving a lot today, surprisingly I wasn't sick, but judging by the empty tables at dinner I think a few people were. We hit the casino after dinner but my $20 didn't go far on the roulette table but it's fun watching other guests.

The shows on-board were more classical than Broadway style but they were excellent.

Day 7
What to say, another relaxing day on deck with glorious sunshine, would of thought we were in the Caribbean not the Atlantic Ocean. Last night on-board before the excitement of New York.

We stayed at the Hilton on the Avenue of the Americas which is in a great location and easy walking distance to many of New York’s finest attractions.

We have been to the Big Apple a few times so decided to take it easy as we were only there for 2 days, we did do the Top of the Rock which has amazing views (I personally think better views than the Empire State Building).  We were blessed again with the Weather and the sun shined as we strolled around central park.

There are so many places to eat out but you can’t beat the vibe from the street vendors and the food is exceptional and great value for money for those on a budget.

We also bought a subway pass for the day which is a great way to get to Battery Park and the 911 Memorial.  I just wish we had more time to explore but I have no doubt I will be going back to New York soon.
